Stjärnfält's debut album "Ascension" is a vivid journey through the cosmos, where one can't find any traces of human life. Combining some elements of atmospheric black metal with ambient and electronic music, "Ascension" immerses a listener into a state of trance, allowing his mind to drift in solitude. The emotional screams of Triumph 3 Obliterator-XXT (the guest vocalist) rush into the aether, bringing the sole human aspect to Stjärnfält's music.
REVIEW:
If you enjoy the meditative atmosphere of the best space black metal albums of, for example, GERM or SIRIUS, as well as the vintage sound of the 80’s electronic projects such as SPACE (France) and ZODIAC (USSR), then you’ll be able to appreciate "Ascension" album by STJÄRNFÄLT (Sweden), especially if you do not take into account the powerful symphonic features of SIRIUS and the overwhelming hysteria of GERM's vocals).
Some listeners from the post-Soviet territories may recall separate melodies of Alexander Zatsepin's music in the cartoon "The Mystery of the Third Planet". The Swedes, of course, did not watch this cartoon and did not listen to Zatsepin’s music, but there is something common in their music – the echoes of utopian dreams about the infinite outer space that will never become a routine either for us or for our closest descendants. And if these dreams come true, will “the retro-cosmo-blackers” of the future be able to create their music with such a mood? Space will become a reality and routine, of course if all future astronauts do not perish in the WWIII (or, more realistically, in a new wave of, for example, up to date COVID).
Thus, the conquest of the vast cosmic expanses will not be a fantasy. The cherished dream will be about the first barefoot walk on the grass on some cozy planet that resembles the Earth, but is not polluted by anyone. It is desirable that nasty insects, dangerous predators, deadly bacteria and (especially) any aborigines should be absent on such a planet, because many centuries ago, "iron-armored Conquistadors" (in a broad sense) had already left their mark on history several centuries ago… Therefore, both the descendants of aborigines and conquistadors are still trying to settle the moral and ethical consequences. So, let's hope that in the space of the future there will be a calm and secluded place for sane representatives of the human race, and let there be a place for "Ascension" in your music collection!
